This is a technique developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It uses a timer to break down tasks and work into intervals. Traditionally 25minutes with a 5minutes break. After 5 sessions of 25Vs5 an individual takes a longer break of 20 minutes. It doesn’t mean you can only use 25 minutes. You can increase the timer and break according to your preferences.

How pomodoro technique works?

Pomodoro technique works when an individual set a 25minute timer with a species task to be undertaken with a 5minutes break ( taking a walk, attending to calls, stretch out, water refill and many others).

4 steps for using pomodoro technique.

1) write a list of tasks which you want to complete.

2) set a timer for 25 minutes.

3) start working on your list.

4) take a break.

benefits of pomodoro technique.

1)Handling anxiety. The main causes of anxiety is overcrowded tasks that overwhelms a person to the extent they loose control. This can be managed by this technique. Doing a task at a time enables an individual to be relaxed.

2) Procrastination. Have you ever had tasks that needed to be done but you keeping telling yourself how you will do them later. 25 minutes can be enough to do things we keep pushing forward.

3) Manages your time and avoids distraction. It keeps track of your time and instead of getting distracted if someone approaches or calls you , you inform them you are in a session, negotiate another time to deal with them, schedule to get back to them and then do it after the session is over. Approach to postpone the interruptions and distractions until ready to deal with them not to waste time.

4) Keeps accountability. It is always good to take time and reflect on a notebook what you have accomplished which increases efficiency.

4) Improves planning. Imagine having a record of tasks done it will enable easy planning for the future. This can help you know your strength and how to work on weaknesses.

5) Takes care of your health. Your mental wellbeing is at stake when cloulded with a million tasks that needs your attention. The 5minutes break walk, checking on friends boosts the energy for the next session.

Keeps you motivated . When the timer runs out it is compared to an athlete who has just finished an exciting rate. This challenges our mind and being hence enabling our real potential to be understood and hence higher productivity.

It is not about how many you get done at a go it is about a task being done diligently. It is not about movement but progress. Embrace pomodoro technique hurray!!
